Merle W. Ongley obituary, Titusville Herald, 20 September 1986, p5. W. Ongley, 89, a resident of Spartansburg, died at Edinboro Manor, Thursday evening, Sept. 18, 1986.

He was born July 5, 1897, in Little Cooley, a son of hte late Arch and Agnes Howe Ongley.

Mr. Ongley was raised and educated in Dotyville, Warren County. He returned to Little Cooley where he owned and operated a dairy farm and was a well-known breeder of registered holsteins. Mr. Ongley retired 17 years ago and made his home in Spartansburg. Since retirement, he and his wife spent winters in Florida for nine years.

He was a member of Lincolnville Baptist Church, was the former director of Athens Township School District, was a member of the Crawford County Farmers Association and the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.

Mr. Ongley was preceded in death by his wife, the former Blanche Jones, in 1975 to whom he was married to in 1920; a sister, Zora Dean, and one brother, James Ongley.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Duane (Marjorie) Obert of Union City, Mrs. Gerald (Doris) Fullom of Centerville, Mrs. Allan (Arlouene) Green of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home in Spartansburg today 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and attend the funeral service there on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Walker, former pastor of the Lincolnville Baptist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Rootville Cemetery.

The family has said that memorial contributions may be made to the Lincolnville Baptist Church, Centerville, RD 2, 16404.
