Welcome to Wikitree!
I was doing some research on my family tree here on Wikitree and found out we have a common ancestor through the Whitakers. I’d be happy to collaborate with you if you would like!
Have a great week, Mikayla M. Whitaker
Wayne
I also know of a Whitaker cousin who wrote a book about our lineage. It has sources all the way up to Robert Whitaker and Margaret Lisle.
It's lovely to meet you!
Best, Mikayla
I have seen the books on Isaac's descendants by Custer Back and Bill Whitaker. Is one of these the book you are referring to? Have you seen both of these?
The one item I have sought for years is proof of Isaac's father. Everyone says his father was Peter. But I am looking for anything that proves this. Do you know of a document that proves it?
It's confirmed that his parents are Peter and Meriam Kent.
I haven't heard of those books and will have to look into them. I would love to know any information you wish to share. I have a family tree on Ancestry and I've been trying to get that squared away. But I don't know many of my Whitaker cousins.
Thanks, Mikayla
Thanks, Wayne
Because of the way the messaging service works at WikiTree, Cheryl didn't get notified about comments you put on your own profile. A greeter might notice it as we attend to our duties like I did (thanks for signing the Honor Code, by the way) but there's no guarantee. That's why it's recommended to reply to comments on your own profile or ask questions for one person in the public comments on their profile.
I see that you have now updated the information for Preston Melton's profile. If the other profiles that you wanted to update have Open Privacy (white lock in upper right corner of profile), you can edit those profile under the guidelines of the Communications Before Editing FAQ. If the profiles are not Open Privacy, there is a link at the bottom of that FAQ to explain how to start the Unresponsive Profile Manager process.
Please do let us know if you have any questions about how WikiTree works, even if they seem minor to you. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back with me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier. We are always here to help; just remember to use the reply link so that we are notified.
See you in the branches,
Debi ~ WikiTree Greeter
PS We have a research tool that makes finding reliable sources easier. I use it all the time and it helps me remember different places to check. To give it a try, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research, scroll down near the bottom of that list, and select Research with RootsSearch (use your WikiTree email & password). There are over 20 websites to access from there. You can read more about the tool in the RootsSearch FAQ.
Thanks for joining us! I hope you're enjoying our site and our community. I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Has the New Member How To Pages been helpful or has it left you with questions?
It's great to have you on board. Enjoy your time here, and good luck growing your branches. If you need help be sure to use the "reply link" for this comment so that I will be notified. You can also click my name to send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
I am pleased to confirm and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.
I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site
Happy tree climbing

any profiles you create for people who are still living and are not active on WT will have their privacy level automatically set to "unlisted" status, so the only people who will be able to see their information will be you and anyone you add to a trusted list for that profile. Each profile has their own trusted list. On your profile your father will show as "private father"
I hope this helps, any problems please let me know
Take care Karen
1. For James Preston Melton (Melton 2477) Paul McGuire sent me an email telling me I could make any corrections, but apparently he didn't release it and I can't access it. 2. I have tried to contact Robert Bradshaw in numerous ways over the last 6 months as required in the instructions. He has not replied to any of my requests. I want access to my great-great grandfather John Onkst (Onkst44) and his father Henry (Onkst 26) and all of Henry's children. Some of the information is not accurate and much is missing. There is a note: "generated by Gedcom import. This is a draft and needs to be edited." I'd be happy to do that if I could get access. 3. I've also requested access to Granville Wilkerson from Robin Mills but have received no response for more than a month. Can you help me with these issues? Thanks, Wayne Onkst
I am sorry to hear that you are not getting responses from the other profile managers, with James Preston Melton, this is an open profile, these ones have an open padlock on the top right of the profile and you don;t need to be added to a trusted list for these ones, so you can work on that profile, and the others are also open, so you can start adding the new information whenever you wish to.
Thank you for your collaboration on the se profiles, we appreciate this very much
Take care Karen
