Biography

Luther was born on the 17th June 1867 the son of William Lanham Oram (1831 - ) and Lucy (Lavis) Oram (1831 - 1880), and his birth was registered in the 3rd quarter 1867 in Langport, Somerset. He was christened on the 28th July 1867 in High Ham, Somerset.[1][2][3][4][5]

1871 Census on the 2nd April 1871 Luther was living in High Ham, Somerset with his parents William and Lucy and his brothers Edwin, Tom, Samuel, Jonah, Jego and Albion.[6]

1881 Census on the 3rd April 1881 Luther was living in High Ham, Somerset with his parents William and Lucy, and his brothers Albion shown as Albert, Adolphus, Ernest Elisha and Jonas.[7]

Military Service

Luther enlisted on the 12th July 1887 and joined the Royal Marines Light Infantry in Plymouth, Devon until 1891.[8] He was 5ft 5 inches tall with light brown hair and blue eyes.[9]

Luther married Emma Porter (1869 - 1957) in 1892 in Taunton, and the marriage was registered in the 1st quarter 1892.[10]

1901 Census on the 31st March 1901 Luther, a Private in the Royal Marine Light Infantry, was living in Westfield Road, Alverstoke, Hampshire with his wife Emma and their daughter Kate. Kate was shown on a separate page in the census.[11][12]

1911 Census on the 2nd April 1911 Luther was living in High Ham, Somerset with his wife Emma, and their children Charlotte Lucy, Eva and Frederick.[13]

In the 1921 census Luther (age 50), Postman, was the married head of household in Low Ham, Langport, Somerset, England.[14]

Luther attended his sister-in-law Mabel's funeral in Taunton in 1928. He was living in Langport, Somerset.[15]

1939 National Register on the 29th September 1939 Luther, a Royal Marines pensioner, was living at 13 Eliotts Drive, Yeovil, Somerset with his wife Emma and their daughter Eva. Eva's husband Donald was living in Acton, Middlesex at this time.[5]

On the 20th January 1945 he attended his brother-in-law Henry's funeral service at North Street Congregational Church, Taunton.[16]

Luther died aged 93 and his death was registered in the 4th quarter 1960 in Yeovil, Somerset.[17]
