Raymond Lionel was born in 1893. He was the son of Albert Edward Orange and Helen Hinkley. [1] He married Lillian Lenora McLachlan in 1916 [2] He passed away in 1918 age 25 . [3]
R L Orange (Service number 40837 ) served in the Army during World War 1. He was a Private in the Canterbury Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion. A painter in civilian life, he gave his next of kin as Mrs Lilian Leonora Orange (wife), of 54 Ashbourne Street, Woolston, Christchurch. He embarked 02 Apr 1917 aboard HMNZT 80 the vessel Corinthic arriving 10 June 1917 to Plymouth, Devon as a Private in the 23rd Reinforcements, Canterbury Infantry Regiment, C Company of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. He was Killed in Action,5 April 1918 at the Somme, Northern France and is buried at Auchonvillers Military Cemetery, in Somme, France (Grave ref II. M. 26.) [4]
