William is a child of John and Eliza Ellen that I know very little about. He was born whilst John was still a journeyman tailor and living at that time in North Newnton civil parish in the hamlet of Hilcott. I suspect that he may have gone up to London (or "gone 'uppard" as was the local expression when talking about going to London). It is possible that he may also have gone into the building and decorating business, and that it was to this great-uncle that Frederick John was to be apprenticed in 1919. There was another candidate for 'Uncle Bill', who is the person to whom Fred was apprenticed, in the form of William Peters who married William's elder sister Harriet.
He was mentioned as a baby in the 1861 census; it is possible that he did not survive childhood. This is work in progress.
