Biography
James Lewis Orcutt was born on 9 July 1883 in Prairieville, Ascension Parish, Louisiana, United States, son of Ira Edwin Orcutt and Marie Cleonise Rivet. His baptism was recorded about five years later at St. John the Evangelist Church in Plaquemine, Iberville Parish, on 15 May 1888.[1][2]
James married Leah P. Parr, daughter of Louis Marville Part and Marie Eve Bonicard, in 1914 in Prairieville.[3]
Their known children were:

- Mary Pearl Orcutt (1921 - 1949)
- Clara C. Orcutt (1924 - 1997)
- Christopher Orcutt, twin (1926 -1947)
- Corine Orcutt, twin (1926 - )[5]
During the 1930 census, the family was renting a home on Bermuda Street in New Orleans, where James worked odd jobs as a carpenter.[5] By 1940 they were renting a home outside Gonzales in Ascension Parish, on Coon Trap Road, where James earned a living as a carpenter in the house building industry. His daughter, Mary Pearl, was living in a neighboring home working as a servant.[6] In 1950 James and Leah were living with their daughter Clara's family on Coon Trap Road in Gonzales.[7]
James died on 12 October 1952, at his home in Gonzales, at age 69.[8][9] He was buried in Prairieville Cemetery.[10]
