Implicated in the burning of Adam, Bishop of Caithness, at Halkirk in 1222 by local farmers.[2]
Joint Jarl of Orkney together with his brother David from 1206 after the death of his father.[3] Ruled as sole Jarl until 1231, after David's death in 1214.[1]
He enjoyed an uneasy relationship with the Norwegian king, travelling several times to his court in Bergen, leaving his eldest son Harald there as hostage in 1224. Harald drowned shortly thereafter.[1]
Murdered by Snækoll Gunnisson at Thurso in 1231.[4]
