Biography

Louise Marie Thérèse Charlotte Isabelle d'Orléans, was born 3 April 1812, the eldest daughter and second child of Louis Philippe II d'Orléans, Duc d'Orléans and his wife, Marie-Amélie Thérèse de Bourbon, Princess of Naples and Sicily (in Italian: Maria Amalia de Borbone-Napoli, Principessa di Napoli e di Sicilia).[1] At the time her father was in exile from France and there is some doubt about where Louise was born. It was probably Palermo in Sicily,[1]; [2] but may have been the Villa Santa Croce, at Monreale near Parma.[3]

She was originally known as Mademoiselle, and then Mademoiselle de Chartres in 1819, and finally when her father succeeded as King of the French in 1830, she was Princesse Louise d'Orléans[1] or Princesse de Sang (Princess of the Blood).[3]

Louise married 9 August 1832 at Château de Compiègne, Leopold I, King of the Belgians (Roi des Belges).
