Laurie Orme was born in Lancashire, England.
This profile is part of the Orme Name Study.
Laurence Lee Duncalf Orme, known as "Laurie", was born on 29 September 1903 at Middleton (Greater Manchester), Lancashire, England.[1][2][3][4] He had the names of both his maternal (Lee) and paternal (Duncalf) grandmothers.
By 1905 the family had moved to Woodbridge, Suffolk were Laurie's father took up the post of Manager of The Woodbridge Gas Company.[5][6]
In about 1915 the family moved from Woodbridge to Derbyshire where Laurie's father took up the duties of manager of the Dronfield Gas Company.
In 1929 Laurie joined George Jowitt and Sons Ltd, a small family company making and selling grinding wheels (see the profiles of George Jowitt Snr and his son, George Jowitt for details).[7]
Laurie married Myra Enid Evans, known as "Mia", at the Church of St Andrew, Sharrow, Sheffield, Yorkshire on 22 July 1933.[8]
At the time of the 1939 Register, Laurie and Mia were living at the home of Jacob Alman at 35 Wostenholm Road, Sheffield. Laurie was working as an "Expert Abrasive Wheel Engineer".[9]
Mia passed away in Sheffield on 25 January 1953, aged 73.[10][11]
On 22 April 1954 Laurie married Elsie Jowitt at the the Church of St Lawrence at Kirby Misperton[12] in the North Riding of Yorkshire[13][14]
Laurie passed away in Sheffield on 8 June 1967, aged 63.[15][16][17]
