Emily Rosalind Orme was born on 2 May 1835 in Southwark, Surrey, England to Charles Orme and Eliza (Andrews) Orme. She was christened on 7 Jun 1835 at the Calvinist Independent chapel on Beresford Street in Southwark.[1]
In 1841 Rosaline Orme (age 6) lived at Knight's Hill in Lambeth, Surrey with her three siblings: Helen (4), Edward (3[should be 8]), and Julia (1), and two servants: Sarah Jackson (20-24) and Hannah Groom (15-19).[2] Her parents Charles and Eliza were at Black Friars Road in St George the Martyr, Surrey.[3]
In 1851 Rosalind Orme (age 15) lived at Upper Avenue Road in Hampstead, Middlesex with her father Charles (44, Distiller), mother Eliza (35), six siblings: Charles Edward (17), Helen (14), Julia (11), Campbell (8), Blanche (6), and Eliza (2), aunt Georgiana Andrew (25, Annuitant), visitor Isabella Masson (24, House Property), and four servants: Mary Ann Hawkins (44), Mary Ann Hacker (20), Eliza Darter (45), and Emily Nunn (30).[4]
Emily Rosalind Orme married David Mather Masson on 17 Aug 1854 in London. Their marriage was registered in the third quarter of the year in Hampstead.[5]
Emily and David had four children: Flora Masson (1856-1937), David Orme Masson (1858-1937), Helen Orme (Masson) Gulland (1863-1963), and Rosaline Masson (1867-1947).
In 1861 Emily R Mason (age 25) lived at Avenue Road in Hampstead with her husband David M Mason (38, MA Prof Eng Lit UC London), two children: Flora Mason (5) and David Arme Mason (3), father Charles Orme (54, Distiller), mother Eliza (45), six siblings: Charles E (27, MRCSC not practising), Julia A (21), Campbell (18), Blanche D (16), Eliza (12), and Beatrice M (3), aunt Georgina Patmore (34), and four servants: Sophia Wolfe (22), Emma Wright (24), Elizabeth Paternoster (22), and Martha Hawkins (28).[6]
In 1871, Emily Rosaline Masson (age 36) lived in St Andrew, Midlothian, Scotland with her husband David Masson (48) and four children: Flora (15), David Arnie Masson (13), Helen Arnie Masson (7), and Rosaline Masson (3).[7]
In 1876, Rosaline Orme Masson published "Three Centuries of English Poetry, being Selections from Chaucer to Herrick". Her husband, a professor of Rhetoric and English Literature in the University of Edinburgh, wrote a general preface.[8]
In 1881, Emily R Masson (age 45) lived in Newington, Midlothian with her husband David Masson (58) and three daughters: Flora Masson (25), Helen O Masson (17), and Rosaline Masson (13).[9]
In 1891, Emily R Masson (age 55) lived in Aberdour, Fife, Scotland with her husband David Masson (68).[10]
Emily Rosaline (Orme) Masson passed away on 10 Dec 1915 in Edinburgh. She is buried in Grange Cemetery in Edinburgh.[11]
