In the 1871 UK census Edwin lived in Macclesfield, Cheshire with his parents, and his siblings Charlotte age 14, Issabella age 12, William age 9, Robert age 5 and Eliza age 1. His father John was a Silk piecer. So were the two eldest daughters and William at the age of 9.^[3]

In 1881 UK census Edwin lived at 5, Church Street, Macclesfield with his parents John and Ann, and his siblings. Charlotte age 24, William age 20, Robert age 14 and Eliza age 11. Edwin was 16 and a Silk Hand.^[4]

Edwin married Eliza Walker on 25th December 1887 at Christ Church, Derby .^[5]

In 1911 UK census Edwin lived in Derby with his wife Eliza, his occupation was a Stationery Engineman. They lived with their daughter Annie age 21, son Edwin age 17 and daughter Florrie age 14.^[8]
