Note: In memory of the Hon. HUGH ORR Esq who was born at Loch Winioch, in Scotland on the 13th of Jan 1717 and in the year 1737 removed to America and soon after settled in **where he died on the 6th day Dec 1798 in the 82d year of his age.[10]

Hugh Orr (1717-98), born in Lochwinnoch, inventor of a machine for dressing flax, took a patriotic part in the war of the Revolution by casting guns and shot for the Continental Army, besides doing much to encourage rope-making and spinning. His son, Robert, invented an improved method of making scythes and was the first manufacturer of iron shovels in New England.

Hugh Orr of Bridgewater, Esqr., did intestate and on 27 December 1798, Nahum Mitchell of Bridgewater was granted the administration of his estate.[13]
His inventory was taken on 5 March 1799 in Bridgewater.

In 1803, an account of his estate by Nahum Mitchell was recorded which included cash collected, real estate sold, property to the widow, appraisers, debts paid, a gown for the widow, supplies to the widow, and administration fees.[16]
