Biography

Andrew was born in 1802 in Ireland.

When Andrew Orr was born on February 14, 1802, in Donegal, Ireland, his father, Joseph, was 27 and his mother, Anna, was 22.

Andrew married Sarah Love on April 2, 1835, in Coshocton, Ohio, USA. They had ten children in 20 years.

He Passed Away on July 17, 1879, in Hopkinton, Iowa, USA, having lived a long life of 77 years, and was buried in Ryan, Iowa, USA..

Donegal, Ireland in 1820 and was paying real estate taxes in Madison Twp., Muskingum Co., OH in 1824; md. 2 Apr 1835, Coshocton Co., OH to Sarah Love, d/o William & Sarah (Logan) Love, in 1856 to Delaware Co., IA. They had Hezekiah Love, Hezekiah Love Jr., Mary, Sarah Jane, Annis Love, Rebecca, Joseph Cameron, Anna Larkey, Nancy Allison and Ruth Orr.

Ref: Andrew Orr left the following will which is found in Delaware County, IA Courthouse, Manchester, IA - In the name of God, Amen.

I, Andrew Orr, of Union Township, Delaware County in the State of Iowa being far advanced in age, yet sound in body and mind, knowing the uncertainty of life, do hereby make and execute this my last Will and Testament.

I command my body to my friends for decent Christian burial, in the hope of a blessed resurrection, and my soul to God who -- it. Hereby directing that by body shall be interred suitably near my family monument in the cemetery in Hazel Green Township, Delaware County, Iowa.

I give and bequeath to the Trustees of the Synod of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, and to their successors in office, the sum of Seven Hundred Dollars ($700.00) including two hundred dollars, a gift by my late son, Hezekiah L. Orr, deceased for the support of the Gospel, to be by them used as follows: The said sum of Seven hundred dollars shall be by said Trustees loaned on interest, and they shall require ample security for the payment of such loan and the interest thereon; the interest thus accruing shall be by them applied for the support of preaching in the locality known as Hazel Green, in Delaware County, State of Iowa, so long as the people residing in that locality who are members of the Reformed Presbyterian Church shall continue either as a mission station, or Congregation, to adhere to the principles and usages of our Reformed Presbyterian Church; the above disposition of the above named fund is to be made under the direction and in care of the Iowa Presbyterian Church of said Synod, and in case there should cease to be either a Mission station, or Congregation adhering to the principles and usages of the Reformed Presbyterian Church at said location, then in that case the said Fund and the interest accruing thereon shall be transferred to the "Iowa Presbyterian of said Synod" to be used by said Presbyterian for similar purposes elsewhere in the State of Iowa.

Having sold and conveyed the farm formerly owned by my late son, Hezekiah Orr, deceased, described as follows: The east quarter (1/4) of the southeast quarter (1/4) of the southwest quarter (1/4) of section fourteen (14), in Township eighty seven (87) North of West of the fifth (5th) Principal Meridian, containing ten (10) acres; then Northwest quarter (1/4) of the Northeast quarter (1/4) and the Northeast quarter of the Northwest quarter of Section thirty (30), in Township and Ranges aforesaid, containing eighty acres, (in all ninety acres) I give and bequeath out of the proceeds of such sale, to my five daughters hereinafter named, their respective heirs and assigns, in equal shares; provided however, that the following distribution of gifts left by said son, Hezekiah L. Orr, deceased, shall first be make from the proceeds of the above described property, : For the second section of this will two hundred dollars: to Andrew Mulholland; one hundred dollars to Samuel Orr of Hazel Green Township, one hundred dollars to Mary Ann Orr, (wife of said Samuel Orr), and to my son Joseph Cameron Orr, fifty dollars.

I give and bequeath to Sarah Love Gray (daughter of Robert Gray of Hopkinton, Iowa) ten dollars; to James H. Gray (son of said Robert Gray) five dollars; to Andrew Orr, five dollars, and to my son Joseph C. Orr, ten dollars.

For the purpose of aiding in supporting and educating the said Sarah Love Gray, a minor, I give and bequeath to her the sum of fifty dollars per year during her non-age, hereby instructing and directing my executors hereinafter named to hold in trust for her, a sufficient amount for that purpose.

All the real estate of which I shall die seized and possessed I desire to have sold and converted into money, by my Executors, in such manner as to them shall seem expedient, having in view the best interests of all the heirs concerned therein, and, after paying all my just debts and funeral expenses out of the proceeds divided into six equal shares; and to each one of my five daughters viz: Mary Crystal(wife of John Crystal); Sarah Jane Guthrie (wife of W. S. Guthrie); Anice Furgusson (wife of Samuel Furgusson); Nancy A. Orr; and Ruth Squires (wife of Thomas J. Squires), I give and bequeath on of the above mentioned shares; and the remaining share I give and bequeath to my son, Joseph Cameron Orr on the following expressed conditions: that he reforms his life and conduct, and make a profession of religion by uniting with the Reformed Presbyterian Church. Upon his compliance with such conditions said share shall be put into his possession; and until his compliance with such conditions said sixth share shall be held in trust for him by my Executors whose duty it shall be to loan on interest said sixth share and require ample security for the payment of such loan and the interest thereon accruing: The interest thereon accruing shall be by my said executors put into the hands of the Iowa Presbytery of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, to be applied for the support of preaching in vacant or destitute places within the bounds of said Iowa Presbytery. And further, if the said Joseph Cameron Orr, should fail to comply with the above conditions during his natural life, then at his decease said bequest of the said sixth share, to him shall be null and void; and the same shall be transferred to the Trustees of said Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America, to be used by them in Missionary work as above mentioned, within the limits of the Iowa Presbytery of said Reformed Presbyterian Synod.

All the personal Estate, excepting or other proceeds the money arising from the sale of lands in the third section of this will, of which I shall die and possessed I desire to have sold and converted into cash in such manner as my Executors may seem expedient, the proceeds of such sale I give and bequeath to my son, Joseph Cameron Orr; my daughter, Nancy A. Orr and Sarah Love Gray (daughter of Robert Gray of Hopkinton, Iowa) to be divided between said Joseph Cameron Orr, Nancy A. Orr, and Sarah Love Gray, share and share alike.

I do hereby nominate and appoint my friends, John Crystal of Hazel Green Township, Delaware County, Iowa and John M Johnson of South Fork Township in said county and state, to be the Executors of this my last will and testament, hereby evoking and making null and void all former wills by me made.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, this twenty ninth day of May in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and seventy nine.

Will was signed by Andrew Orr, and a handwritten copy is on file at the Manchester, Delaware Co., IA courthouse.

The will was opened and publicly read and filed the 23 day of July 1879.

The estate was closed 8 May 1882.
