Jean Edouard "Edward" Ortego was born in 1877 to Athanase Ortego and Omerine Shaw and baptized in Ville Platte, Louisiana. [1]

He married Valentine Pitre, the daughter of Louis Pitre and Midia Tate, on 25 Jan 1900 in Ville Platte, Louisiana. [2]

In 1910, they were still living in St Landry Parish, Louisiana and had seven children.

After Valentine's death in 1916, he married Josephine Daisy Tate, the daughter of Oneal Tate and Blanche Vidrine, on 23 Jan 1919 in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana. [3]

He died on 12 Aug 1950 at a Ville Platte hospital after an illness of several months. His obituary mentions that we was a prominent planter and merchant as well as president of the Evangeline Parish school board. [4] [5]
