Biography

The obituary for Elizabeth Ortman Ault states "Elizabeth Ortman was born in Ross County, Ohio, August 20, 1819, and died at her home in Valley Falls, August 6, 1903, aged eighty three years, eleven months and sixteen days. She was married November 18, 1842 to Emanuel Ault, she died January 7, 1895. She leaves six children, three sons and three daughters. Two sons preceded her in death: the eldest, Lyman, died in the Union army, April 11, 1865: the fourth son, Austin, died at home in Kansas, September 27, 1881. Early in life the deceased was a converted and became a member of the United Brethren church, in which church she lived until she with her husband in 1869 came west; then she joined the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was a member at the time of her death. Her funeral was preached in the Methodist Episcopal church, August 8, by her pastor, and the remains were followed to their last resting place beside those of her husband."^[1]
