Biography

Joyce was born in 1925 in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of John E. Orton, Jr. and Irene G. Shea. She died in Worcester, Massachusetts on 15 December 1990 and is buried in Howard Cemetery in Sutton.[1]

Obituary: Joyce Vanderwart, 65, of 28 High Gate Rd., an interior designer with Natick Mills for many years, died Saturday [15 December 1990] at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, Mass. Born in Providence, a daughter of Irene G. (Shea) Orton of Cranston, and the late John E. Orton Jr. she had lived in Cranston for a year. She previously lived in Acton, Mass., and Sutton, Mass. Mrs. Vanderwart was a member of the First Congregational Church of Sutton and and Sutton Women's Fellowship. She was a past president of Emerson Hospital, the Acton Center Women's Club Federated, the West Acton Women's Club Federated, the Acton Garden Club, the Millbury Women's Club and Edgewood Park Jr. College Alumni Association. She was a member of the Massachusetts Federated Republican Women and the State Board of Massachussets Federated Women's Club. Besides her mother she leaves a son, Tad Vanderwart of Worcester; two daughters, Karen V. Potter of Sutton and Stacy Pelletier of Webster, Mass.; a brother, the Honorable John E. Orton III of Warwick, Associate Justice of the Rhode Island Superior Court, Providence, and a grandson. The funeral service will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Sutton, On-the-Common, Sutton. Burial will be in Howard Cemetery, Sutton.[2]
