Mary's husband, Louis De Felix, was attached to the Court of King Louis XVI, and fled for his life from France at the outbreak of the French Revolution.
He travelled to South America and accumulated a large property in Demerara, which at that time was in British Guyana. Guyana changed hands over time from the Dutch to the French.
The name De Felix was Anglicised to St Felix or alternatively sometimes de St Felix in later generations.
