Biography

Tunis, son of William Osgood and Magdalene Covert, was born in Lodi, New York around 1811. He married Sarah (Miller) Osgood, almost immediately migrating west to the Michigan Territory. Sarah died in childbirth in the village of Tecumseh, Michigan and Tunis returned to New York, marrying Sarah's younger sister the next year.

He married Elizabeth Ann Miller 1814-1886), the daughter of Oliver Miller and Ann Van Voorhees, marrying around 1835. They lived out their lives in Lodi Township in Seneca County. In 1850, Tunis widowed mother lived with the family in Lodi, as did his younger brother, Cornelius, who worked on the farm with him. Sarah L. Miller, age 3 and born in Michigan, is also in the household, perhaps the daughter of one of Elizabeth's siblings, who also migrated west.[1][2][3][4][5]

Tunis passed away at the age of 81[6] and is buried at West Lodi Cemetery.[7]

Research Notes

There is evidence that Tunis and Sarah Osgood had a daughter together who did not survive infancy or childhood, also named Sarah Ann Osgood, who was born on July 15, 1837.
