PETER OSGOOD,[1] b. at Andover, 14 Nov 1717 eldest child and son of Timothy and Mary (Russell) Osgood; d. at Andover, 17 Nov 1801; m. at Andover, 8 Sep 1743, SARAH JOHNSON, b. at Andover, Nov 1719 daughter of Timothy and Katherine (Sprague) Johnson; Sarah d. at Andover, 1 Aug 1804.
Capt. Peter Osgood and Sarah Johnson raised their family in Andover. Peter was a successful merchant and served as magistrate. He also served as representative to the General Court and the state convention for the adoption of the constitution 9 January 1783. Son Samuel Osgood graduated from Harvard in 1770 and served as the first Postmaster General of the United States.[2] Son Isaac was a successful entrepreneur in Andover and his estate included a mill, a homestead of 104 acres valued at $10,000, an additional eight dwelling houses, and a machine shop.[3]
In his will written 15 September 1800 (probate 7 December 1801), Peter Osgood bequeathed to beloved wife Sarah the use of the dwelling house she now possesses and what is necessary for her comfortable maintenance. Son Peter receives a piece of woodland and fifty dollars. Son Samuel receives five dollars which completes his portion. Daughter Susanna receives fifty dollars and half the stock in the Union Bank, and “considering her husband’s industry, prudence, and fame in his profession” his income is such that his family is in better circumstances that some of his other children, that will be her full portion. Son Isaac receives five dollars to complete his portion. The remainder of the estate goes to son Timothy. Son Peter named in the will died 5 January 1801 between the time of the will and the time of probate.[4]
Peter Osgood and Sarah Johnson were parents of ten children born at Andover.

Samuel m. 2nd at New York, 24 May 1786, MARIA BOURNE (widow of Walter Franklin), b. about 1754 daughter of Daniel Bourne;[5] Maria d. at New York, Oct 1814.
