John owned land in upstate New York, making his home in the village of Ovid.[6][7]The first census record of John Osgood is the 1830 census in Lodi, New York.[8][9] It seems that John Osgood died suddenly on March 27, 1841 with the cause of death never determined. Martha Osgood made application to become administratrix of his estate with administration also by Jeremiah Van Vleet and Tunis Covert Osgood.[10][1] John is buried in McNeal Cemetery in Ovid, New York.[11]
