Stephen Osgood was born 18 Aug 1709 in Andover Mass., the son of Stephen, son of Stephen, son of John.[1] His father's will names six other children in addition to Stephen,[2] and Osgood (1894) provides more information about five of the six children.[1]
Stephen married Darcas Ballard in Andover on 4 Mar 1730-31 (intention also recorded).[3] Together they had 11 children.[1]
Stephen served as the schoolmaster of Tewksbury in 1740 and was town clerk.[4]
Osgood's 1894 genealogy indicates Stephen had the title of "Lieutenant", but no record of military service has yet been found.[1]
In his will written 15 August 1769 (probate 7 June 1772), Stephen Osgood bequeathed to beloved wife Dorcas one-third part of the real estate while she is a widow as well as other provisions for her support. Eldest son Stephen receives all the lands and buildings in Tewksbury as well as the tools and stock animals. Stephen also receives the land in Petersham. Sons Joseph and Peter each receives £30. Daughters Hannah, Mary, Rebecca, and Anna each receives five shillings. Grandson Joseph Dane and granddaughter Lydia Brown also receive five shillings. These payments with what was previously received is their full portion. Son Stephen also receives all the personal estate.[5]
