Biography
He was the only son of Sultan Selim by Selim's favorite concubine, Nur Banu.
Upon his ascension to the throne, and in accordance with Ottoman custom, Murad executed his brothers: Abdullah, Cihangir, Mustafa, Osman, and Suleiman (another brother, Mehmed, had died 2 years earlier).
Although the Ottoman Empire was involved in a long war with Safavid Persia during his reign, and ethe empire reached it's greatest extent, Murad III took no part in warfare and devoted his time to poetry and mysticism.
