I‘d like to invite you to have a look at the Ostermann Name Study. Also, I‘m interested to know what your genealogical interests are and what you might be able to contribute to Osterman(n) family research. The Russian Ostermann line looks fascinating albeit under-researched, so drop me a line whenever you can.
At WikiTree, we aim to protect the privacy of all living individuals for their protection and in line with data protection legislation.
WikiTree has excellent privacy controls, but that won’t protect you and your family if you publish your personal information or the information of your living family members in your biography, Communications section, or on the profiles of others.
Since WikiTree is a public website, I suggest you remove references to dates, locations, or living individuals from your biography, or communication section, or comments.
I noticed telephone numbers and other identifying entries that need to be removed.
That sounds like a good plan. On WikITree, wiki markup is preferred in person profiles, and HTML code is not recommended (for example, the scrolling text box should not be used) or the S### identified sources that are not linked to the actual source.
WikiTree has an extension to help clean up gedcom junk - you can read about it here and add it to your browser. It then puts a AGC button on the edit toolbar so one click reformats and gives you notes on issues to address. The info is here: WT AGC.
Another good app is WikiTree X which loads facts from FamilySearch where the profile has attached sources. You can load from other sites also, but FamilySearch is free and the records are reliable. That page is here: WTX.
Too much information? Hope not, and take your time; there is a learning curve, and feel free to contact me with any questions.
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
