Wife of Alfred Butts, inventor of Scrabble
Mrs. Nina Ostander Butts died Dec 28 in Rhinebeck. She and her husband Alfred were among the founders of the Stanford Free Library. Her husband also invented Scrabble. Born in Cold Spring on Hudson, she was the daughter of the Rev. Angelo Ostrander and Mary E Curry Ostrander.
She was a graduate of Syracuse University (1901-05, PhB). Taught biology at Poughkeepsie School.
She was later a technician at the Rockefeller Institute of Medical Research in NY. Survived by her husband, whom she married in 1925; many nieces & nephews. Pine Plains Register Herald, 3 Jan 1980
