"(Father: Abram Bull d.1882, Mother: Philecta Underwood d. 1884)

As for the nationality of our ancestors, I believe Grandfather Bull was of English descent. I once heard Grandmother Bull (who lived with us for several years when I was at home) say she was 1/8 Irish. Grandfather Underwood was, I believe, of English descent & Grandmother Cornelia Ostrander Underwood was what was called Mohawk Dutch - a descendent of the early Dutch settlers in the Mohawk Valley in New York. At the time, in the 1812 War with England when the English threatened to land at Sacketts Harbor and Sandy Creek, Grandfather Underwood took his team and volunteered to carry soldiers who were being impressed into the service for defence and left only a colt at home which had never been harnessed. Grandmother cut down trees and hauled them to the house and cut them into wood for her fires. Of course, timber was plenty and near at hand in those times. I have written these items which much impressed me when I was a boy thinking you or the other boys might be interested also."
