Obituary - Clary

Cora Ellen, daughter of Jeremiah and Phoebe Ostrander, was born in Greene county, Wisconsin, April 12, 1868, and entered into her estate of eternal glory December 26, 1931, after a sojourn here of 63 years, 8 months and 14 days. She had been ill for the past two and a half weeks. She spent her early childhood in Greene county, Wisconsin and Warren county Iowa. From there her family went to Missouri and about the year 1873 they came to Kansas and settled on a farm near Fredonia. From that time on she has lived in and around Fredonia. On October 17, 1889, she was united in marriage with John Wesley Clary and this union was blessed with nine children, three of whom, together with her hus- band, have preceded her to their reward. The surviving children are R. E. Clary, W. D. Clary, Arthur Clary and David Clary, all of Fredonia, and Mrs. Ruby Harder and Mrs. Elsie Nickel of Independence. She also leaves two brothers and two sisters, J. W. Ostrander of Cherryvale, N. B. Ostrander of Fredonia, Mrs. Emily Bradley of Wakeeney, and Mrs. Fannie Koch of Fredonia. Nine grand children also survive her, besides a host of friends. Mrs. Clary became a Christian in 1908 and thenceforth her life was devoted to the service of her Lord and Master. She was a member of the United Brethren church and was ever faithful in her church and Sunday school attendance, and an ardent exponent of practical Christanity. She was a friend to all who were in sor- row and distress, helping wherever there was need. But above all, she nurtured and strengthened and rendered indomitable that implied faith in her Savior which sustained her so well in her last trial. " I want to go Home, " and " I am going to meet the Master " and such other expressions which were heard from her lips during her last few days are indicatory of where her mind was centered. Ever conscious of the fact that this world is but a preparation for a better world to come, she has now come to the realization of the beautiful promise contained in that blissful excerpt from the Book she knew and loved so well, which reads: "Be thou faithful unto the end, and I will give thee the Crown of Life." Funeral services were held December 28 at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. F. V. Smith of the United Brethren church at Chanute and burial was in the Fredonia cemetery.
