On 14 August 1651 Jan Jansz Baptista, Thomas Swartwout and Hendrickge Barents went to notary Jacob de Winter in Amsterdam where a testament was made, this very likely was done because they were planning to go to Oost Indien (New Netherland), Thomas Swartwout is described as bootsgezel on the ship Den Oliphant (the Elephant) and his adress in Amsterdam is the Middelstraat. [1] It probably was this ship de (Witte) Olifant that was built for the Amsterdam chamber in 1639 and used by the VOC, on 3 January 1652 it sailed from Texel (via Kaap de Goede hoop) to Batavia (arrival 7 May 1652) (captain Klaas Jansz. Both) [2] When they arrived in New Netherland in 1652, landing at Manhattan Island, they were greeted by Director General Pieter Stuyvesant . Thomas located on the west end of Long Island and gave the name of the new village, Midwout.
Members of Dutch Reform Church, and Tomas ws elected Judge of Midwout to represent them at the first provincial assemble of the Colonists of New Netherland at New Amsterdam, Dec. 9 1653. About 1655 in New York [3] Received on march 7, 1661, from Director general Stuyvesant the instrument of writing placing him in legal possession of his farm of 58 Morgens, about 116 English acres. Shortley after, they returned to Amsterdam, where Tomas Swartwout passed away and was buried on 15 October 1679.
Born 1611 in Holland est. date 1 July 1611[7] According the marriage record she was from (born in) Amsterdam [5]
kind: Henrik doopdatum: 17-08-1610 kerk: Nieuwe Kerk godsdienst: Hervormd vader: Barent Otsz moeder:Jakomijntje Jans [8] Perhaps the gender wasn't mentioned, so they just wrote the male form of the name ? She was 20 years of age at the marriage and assisted by her father Barent Otsz.

Osten-4 and Otsen-7 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest maternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge. No tree conflicts. These matches have been reviewed by the New Netherland Settlers Merge Approval System, and the "Green" destination NNS profile is protected as PPP, and the "Merge Pending" profile is now ready and able to be merged into it. I saved the data to the bios. Regarding her LNAB, I think she should eventually become Barents, but we currrently have no such profile. Otsen appears to be her father's patronymic, as son of an Ot, would be my guess. And so then it was perhaps also mis-interpreted as her surname. But that is merely surrmise. Her status is currently as an Ancestor, not a Settler, because we are not clear yet if she actually immigrated with her husband. So that will need later study, and might warrant a category change for her to Settler, probably depending on the immigration date. Thanks!
But also, I suspect that both are really wrong. misinterpeted as an ancestor patronymic that got misaaplied here up the line.
So for NNS, this should probably become patronymic Barents instead.
