William Bruere Otter was born on May 28, 1805 in London and baptized on July 22, 1805 in Letherhead, son of William Otter and Nancy Sadlier. [1]
He and Elizabeth Melvil were married on May 18, 1837 in Amsterdam. [2] [3]
Their first child Elizabeth was also born there in Amsterdam.
He lived for much of his time at The Vicarage[4], St Peter's Church in Cowfold, Sussex where most of his 8 children were born. The living is a vicarage, endowed with the rectorial tithes value about £500 per annum, with residence, in the gift of the Bishop of London, and held by the Ven. William Bruere Otter, M.A., of St. Peter's College, Cambridge, archdeacon of Lewes. William Bruere Otter was Vicar at Cowfold between 1839 and 1876 (when he died). The family were ensconced in the Vicarage and his children, other than his eldest daughter, were all born there.
He wrote a Churchwarden's Account of the Parish of Cowfold in 1849 (pp316-325.
He died on June 25, 1876 in Cowfold. [5]
