Vickie Lynn Ottinger was born on 23 Jul 1955 to Billie Jean (Thompson) and Marvin Ottinger in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA. Vickie was the first child for both Marvin and Billie. [1]
Vickie's first home was on 14th Street, Saint Louis, Missouri. Billie Jean loved dressing her baby girl up is frilly dresses and taking her out for walks in the neighborhood. Vickie was a very happy baby and was always smiling, because of this the neighbors began calling her "Smiley". [2]
In the fall of 1969 Vickie and her family were living in the small town of West Chicago, DuPage, Illinois, USA and and she was Freshman at West Chicago High School. On the morning of October 23, 1969 Vickie and her best friend were walking to school. They were waiting at a corner with a traffic light for the signal to change, when it did, Vickie's friend began to walk ahead of her as she looked back still talking to Vickie. Vickie saw a car that was turning against the light and grabbed a hold of her friend to stop her. Unfortunately this caused Vickie to stumble out into the path of the oncoming car. Vickie was hit and thrown approximately 40 feet in the air. Her 14-year-old friend stayed with Vickie until the ambulance arrived. [2]
Vickie's parents made the difficult decision to remove life support and she passed on October 29th, 1969. [3]
Vickie is buried in Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago, DuPage County, Illinois, USA. [4]
