Biography
Modeste Ouellet was born and baptized on 20 Sep 1863 in Sainte-Luce parish in Frenchville, Aroostook, Maine. She was the daughter of Thomas Ouellet and his wife Marie Julie Virginie Blanchet. Godparents at Modeste's baptism were Didyme Bouchard and Methaide Albert.
Modeste married Jean-Baptiste Rousseau on 16 August 1881 in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Lewiston, Androscoggin, Maine. Modeste and her husband anglicized their names to Maud and John Brooks by 1886.
John and Maud Brooks had 8 children, of whom 4 used Brooks as their surname, 4 kept Rousseau.
Maud died in 1947; she was buried in Saint Francis Catholic Cemetery in Waterville, Kennebec, Maine.
