1st Marriage : On 18th December, 1859, at Elgin, Rideau Lakes, Leeds and Grenville, Ontario, Canada, Joel married Sarah A Burdan, the daughter of Henry Burdan and Eleanor Burdan. Joel, 34, said he lived Walsingham, and was born in the State of New York, the son of Joel and Lavena Overbaugh. Sarah was 25 years old, living in the town of her birth, Southwold. Their marriage was performed before witnesses Nathaniel Burdan and Edward E. Ellis ^[1]
