Thomas Overbury was born in Warwickshire, England.
Sir Thomas Overbury, son of Sir Nicholas Overbury, was born at Compton Scorpion manor house, near Ilmington, Warwickshire, and baptized at Barton-on-the-Heath on 18 June 1581. [TBGAS, Vol. 16] 
He attended Queen's College Oxford where he matriculated aged 14 on 27 Feb 1595/96. He took his BA on 15 Nov 1598 and then was a student of the Middle Temple, following in the footsteps of his father. 
Thomas moved in illustrious literary circles, being acquainted with John Donne, Ben Jonson, Sir John Hoskyns, Sir Benjamin Rudyerd and others. He was knighted at Greenwich, England on 19 June 1608.
