A BIOGRAPHY OF CHARLES ATKINSON OVERMIRE, by Larry Overmire, Aug. 2008:

Charles Atkinson Overmire was born May 22, 1877 or 1878 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the only son of Milton Strader Overmire and Alice Nevada Atkinson.

In 1900, he was living in Belleville, San Bernardino Co., California, working as a miner and assayer.

About 1906, he married E. Anna Smith, the daughter of Otis and Sarah Smith. They had two children together, Ruth Nevada and Milton Otis Overmire, but Anna apparently died before 1910. The 1910 census shows the children living with their Smith grandparents, while Charles was a widower living as a lodger in L.A. and working as a chemist in a laboratory.

Charles' World War I draft registraton of 1918 shows he was tall, of medium build with blue eyes and black hair. He was living at 229 E. 9th St. in L.A. and self-employed as a manufacturer.

On Apr. 23, 1923, he married for the second time, to Mary Belle "Mae" Porter Dean, widow of James Dean, and the daughter of Henry Franklin and Honer Elizabeth (Gaines) Porter. They took their vows in a Lutheran church in Reno, Nevada. They had no issue.

Charles died on May 29, 1929, in San Francisco at the age of 52 and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles.
