Biography

Edna Owen was one of "The Three Sisters" in Carrizo Springs, Texas, three well thought of Owen women, "town girls" since their male Owen and Dixon family members/ancestors had been successful businessmen.

Edna's second husband (if not her 3rd) was Albin J Fisher. She'd first married a Burnett in SW Texas as a teenager, but filed for divorce legally. In CA she married a Fisher with whom she enjoyed a better, more comfortable materialistic life in California.

A brave woman for her day, she left her first husband, taking her two daughters with her to Los Angeles for a new life. Her younger daughter and the older were very different people. These were beautiful women though. None of her kids were educated past their first year of high school, but the youngest, Bernice, was an autodidact (self taught and a good teacher for her dau). She was also an adult with a mathematical mind. She loved science and all sorts of arcane knowledge (palmistry; astrology, for example). Her interests amused her daughter's high school friends.

Edna loved finery, the horse races, money. Born in SW Texas, she did not belong in SW Texas or being married to a wrangler (who hired out from job to job). She survived that and took her daughters to Los Angeles, CA. There, her lifestyle was the only one I, her grandchild, knew as a child. which was solidly middle class and upper middle class even. Eventually Al Fisher (maybe in partnership with her) owned a multifamily housing set of apartments and later a trailer park next to Santa Anita Racetrack so he could get to know the jockeys and thereby make more educated bets.

Edna married Alvin Fisher (no issue), and she finally got him to move to Bakersfield where they both died. He hated that town for its boredom. She'd moved there to be near two of her three children, Azubah and David. By then Bernice had moved her family to SoCal.

There's a rumor that she'd married another Burnett, perhaps in California & after she left her first husband Wm Ward Burnett, a cowboy/wrangler, She and Wm Ward did divorce.

Edna Iona Owen was a short and somewhat stocky woman with sparkling blue eyes. She married twice and I hope she divorced the first husband, my gf, legally. She had three children, but only one an intellectual without a formal education. Edna was a money-centered, possession-centered "town girl," leading her to understand there was a better life out there beyond West Texas, and the cowboy for hire man she first married. She taught her daughters to love finery, but neither achieved these things as they matured. Her second husband was from a wealthy family and acquired wealth and property throughout his life. He bored easily, gambled and won, and finally committed suicide in his later years in a town that held no interest to him.
