Biography
Very little is known of Cordelia and the only records found to date are family histories and recollections.
She is recorded as both Cordelia Rebecca and Rebecca Cordelia - while it is unknown which is correct, it is likely Cordelia Rebecca, as Cordelia was her mother's name.
She is likely the one female under age 10 listed in the 1820 Census with her father. [2] While this census did not list all of the family members, she was the only girl attached to this family as her sister Caroline was born in 1821. The 1830 Census [3]also shows her father listed with one female age 10-14 which is likely Cordelia.
In June of 1831, her family gathered with the Saints in Kirtland, Ohio, and the following year, followed their prophet Joseph Smith to Missouri that Spring. They settled in Hiram, Missouri but moved to Independence, Missouri later that year or early the next.
Cordelia died of exposure at age 15 during mob violence when the families were forced to flee their homes. Per family records, she was buried next to her brother John in the Temple Lot at Independence[4].
