Martha was born on May 23, 1880. She was the daughter of Willis Owens and Sarah ( Sally ) Ann ( Ellis ) Owens. Martha married Charlie Phillips on May 9, 1903 at Huntsville in Scott County, Tennessee.[1][2] They lived in Scott County.[3][4][5] Martha passed away from myocardial insufficiency, generalized arteriosclerosis and heart disease on January 1, 1959 at her home in Oneida in Scott County.

Phillips, Martha Owens—Born May 23, 1880. Deceased this life January 1, 1959. Age 78 years, 8 months, 29 days. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Charlie Phillips in 1903, who preceded her in death in 1956. To this union were born 13 children, 2 boys and 11 girls. Talmon and Letha preceding her in death. She leaves 1 son, Alonzo Phillips; 10 daughters, Prencie Phillips, Winnie Chambers, Arlena Litton, Vivian Grundy, Stella Coffey, Zola West, and Ollie Pike all of Oneida. Della Grundy and Ella Pennington of Cincinnati, Ohio. Nellie Slaven of Indianapolis, Ind. She professed a hope in Christ in September 1903, and joined the Cherry Fork Baptist Church later moving her membership to the Tunnel Hill Baptist Church where she remained a member until death. She also leaves to mourn her passing 2 brothers and 2 sisters, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. We feel our loss is Heaven's gain. Martha Phillips, 78, passed away at her home in Oneida January 1, after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Charlie Phillips, a member of the Pentecost Baptist Church, and had many friends. Survivors: 1 son, Lonzo Phillips of Oneida; 10 daughters, Zola West, Ollie Pike, Winnie Chambers, Stella Coffey, Vivian Grundy, Arlena Litton, and Princess Phillips all of Oneida, Della Grundy and Ella Pennington of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nellie Slaven of Lancing, Tenn.; 2 half sisters, Sally Keeton and Annie Foster of Helenwood; 1 half brother, Self Owens of Helenwood; 45 grandchildren, several great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Pentecost Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Sunday January 4, 1959 with Revs. Albert Chitwood, James Jeffers and John R. Byrd officiating. Burial in Marcum Cemetery.
