Research

Parents: (unknown)
It has been suggested that David was the son of William Owens (1705-1788) but that profile is obviously a composite of two different men both having the same name. The David Owens of this profile is clearly NOT the son of the William Owens who died in Wilkes County, NC in 1788.

At the time of David's appearance in South Carolina there were a Walter & Edward Owens, brothers. They lived in Welsh Neck area and were on the voting records in 1769. Another Owens was a Lansford Owen was shown on the Catfish Baptist Church in 1752, and In 1759 he received a grant for 100 acres on Catfish Creek. He doesn't show up anywhere on the 1790 census. These Owen's were a separate line altogether. [10]

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with David by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with David:

The merge of Owens-11010 into Owens-5033 should not be rejected because they are clearly the same person--same birth year, same spouse and marriage year, same daughter, and same death info. There is a discrepancy in birth location (unknown vs. England but neither profile offers a source so the discrepancy should be noted in a Research Note.

Merges are also needed for David's spouses and children because duplicate & triplicate profiles exist.
