Edward was born September 13, 1777 in present-day Portland, Maine.[1] He was the second of Thomas Oxnard and Martha Preble's ten children, and a grandson of Brigadier General Jedediah Preble.[1][2]
Edward married Rebecca Thompson. They had no children.[1]
He was lost at sea aboard the privateer Dash with his younger brother Enoch.[1][2]
