Biography

Priscilla Pabodie[1] was born on January 15, 1653/4 at Duxbury, in the Plymouth Colony. She was the second daughter named "Priscilla" born to William and Elisabeth (Alden) Pabodie (abt.1624-1717) and the granddaughter of Mayflower passengers John Alden (abt.1598-1687) and Priscilla (Mullins) Alden[1][2]

She married Rev. Ichabod Wiswall at Duxbury. The last two digits of the year, 16__, is worn.[3] The printed Duxbury vital records say "Prissillah [dup. Priscilla] and Ichabod Wiswall, Dec. 2, 1682 [dup. Nov. 2, 1673]" [4] A book designated as the "Robinson Mem" has a third date, 24 10 1679. Children were born beginning in 1680.[1] Ichabod Wiswall (c. 1637-23 July 1700) was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth (____) Wiswall. Wiswall attended Harvard, taught school and was ordained in 1676. He was previously married to Remember ____ and had a daughter Elizabeth born 6 Nov 1670[1]

Several sources give her full name as Priscilla Pabodie Wiswall Averill Sprague. There was an opportunity in her life span for two more husbands. Specific information as to dates, places, and supporting documentation for marriages to Isaac Averill and Michael Sprague has not yet been supplied. The agrument against the other marriages is that the Duxbury Vital Records give her name at her marriage to Ichabod Wiswall as Pabodie and the Kingston records show her name at death as Wiswall.

William Pabodie, her father, had an estate of £407. He left the land to his sons (some after wife's decease), and left his daughters, Mary, Mercey, Martha, Ruth, Sarah, Hannah, Lidia (also received a pair of green curtains), the heirs of Elizabeth and the heirs of Rebecca only one shilling each.[1][5]

Ichabod's will was dated 25 May 1700 and proved 19 August 1700. He named his wife Priscilla (executor), eldest daughter Elizabeth, wife of Elisha Wadsworth, son Peleg and daughters Mercy, Hannah, Priscilla and Deborah.[1] [Plymouth Co PR 23270, 1:325, MD 19:1-3]

Priscilla Wiswall, Peleg Wiswall and John Robinson sold land that was formerly granted to Ichabod Wiswall and John Robinson on 4 July 1706. Priscilla Wiswall, widow of Duxbourough and Peleg Wiswall, student, exchanged some land with John Alden 19 April 1714,[Plymouth Co.LR 12:3, 16:198 ] John Wadswarth on behalf of his wife and three other daughter of Ichabod Wiswall claimed 100 acres on the Kennebeck River18 Jan 1714/15. They had been left this in Ichabod's will. (MHGR 7:192] [1]

Priscilla Wiswall died June 3, 1724, aged 71 years in that part of Plymouth that became the town of Kingston in 1725. She was buried at the old burial ground behind the First Church.[1] [6]
