Chester W. Packard, 88, a local farmer, passed away on 26 January 1877 at Dayton, Waupaca, Wisconsin. He was born on 6 June 1788 at Cummington, Hampshire, Massachusetts, a son of Abel Packard, 1754-1832 and Mary (Bisbee) Packard, 1759-1807. He married Eunice Sadler on 4 July 1816 at Cummington. She died in 1830. Then on 17 September 1851, he married Anna (Barrus) Bates in Cummington, 1789-1871.
Mr. Packard was survived by: his children, Ira Packard, b. 1817; Edwin Chester Packard, Jr., b. 1822; Sumner Packard, b. 1824; Silas Sadler Packer, b. 1826; William Dwight Packard, b. 1828; sister, Elizabeth (Packard) Richards, b. 1791; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; first wife, Eunice, 1797-1830; second wife, Anna, 1789-1871; son, Edwin Chester Packard, 1819-1821; and brothers, Eliphalet Packard, 1784-1868; and Theophilus Packard, 1793-1867.
The funeral was held at Crystal Lake, Waupaca, Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon, 28 January 1877 and was largely attended. He was one of the first settlers in Crystal Lake and was much respected.
Chester is buried at the Crystal Lake Cemetery, Rural, Waupaca, Wisconsin.
