Biography

John Packer Jr. was born around February 1656/7[1] to John Packer and Elizabeth Friend in Groton, Connecticut.[2]

John was a laywer.[3]

He married, first, Lydia Latham, daughter of Cary Latham and Elizabeth Masters, probably around 1678.[4]

Children with Lydia Latham:

  • Elizabeth Packer, b. 25 March 1679[5]
  • Lydia Packer, b. 10 January 1681/2[6]

Lydia must have died before John married, second, Sarah Miller on 10 March 1686/7.[7] Sarah was the daughter of George Miller, who died in 1690.[8]

Children with Sarah Miller:

  • Sarah Packer, b. 10 October 1689
  • John Packer (III), b. 3 May 1693
  • Bethiah Packer, b. 20 November 1695[9]

Sarah (Miller) Packer was still living when John wrote his will in 1700, in which he identified himself as a lawyer of New London and named his wife Sarah sole executor (or if she cannot, Mr. James Harvy and Mr. Nehemiah Smith), with legacies to her and each of his children by name.[3]

  4. The 1896 copy of New London Vital Records Vol. 1 gives that his first two children were daughters of a Lydia. Packer-1313 and Packer-798 appear to represent the same person because: Same person. Birth date is wrong on Packer-1313 and no sources are represented. Same wife and child should belong to Packer-798
Packer-1313 and Packer-798 are not ready to be merged because: 50 year age difference therefore unable to confirm or reject, so I've postponed merge.

Packer-1313 and Packer-798 appear to represent the same person because: Aside from the birth date, these are duplicates. As Packer-1313 states, it's from an unsourced family tree, so I wouldn't get hung up on its claim about his birth date. Please merge into Packer-738, keeping the data and biography of 738. Thanks!
