Biography

Mary Packer was born in 1660 in New London, New London, CT and died after her husband 1720 probably in Groton, New London, CT. Ephraim Culver registered his will in 1716. The will was probated 10 Oct 1720. This means he died probably in Oct 1720. (Source: CT Wills and Probate Records No.1546 Town of Groton.) Distribution of the will his widow is given land along with the children listed below, minus daughter Lydia. Samuell Fisk, Richard Williams, and John Burrows signed page (image 607) dated 24 Nov 1721. On Image 609 Mary is referred to as widow and relict of Ephraim Culver, 10 Apr 1716. He may have had a brother David Culver.

Research Note: This Ephraim Culver co-existed with an Ephraim Colver of the Lebanon in the Town of Litchfield who died 10 Feb 1728/9. That Ephraim married Martha Hibbard on 6 Nov 1707 in Lebanon. This couple also had a son Ephraim b. 1717.

There was a David Culver probably a brother to this Ephraim.

WikiTree has a death date for 1730 for Mary, I could not locate the source.

Children of the couple, named in Ephraim's will:

  • i. Ephraim Culver b. 16 May 1692 in New London ‘now Groton’
  • ii. Jeremiah Culver, his will dated 1764 (No. 1547 New London)

Lydia Collver b. 1704 Groton, New London, CT, died before will probate 1721 OR she doesn’t belong with this family group. A Lydia married in Lebanon John Grey 1721. The adult ‘Lydia’ does not fit this group.

  • iii. Moriame Culver
  • iv. Sarah Culver (NOT the birth to ‘Joseph’ and Mary on 24 May 1710 Groton as that couple had a son Moses born 1712 and he lived til adulthood to marry. There is no Moses mentioned in the will.)
  • v. Simon Culver

From the New London County Court Records, dated September 17, 1678, John Stark was fined for being out at night with Samuel Packer, Mary Fish, and Margaret Culver.
