His parents were Ben H. PADDOCK & Olga GUNDERSON.
During World War II he served in the United States Navy.
In 1946, he was convicted of auto larceny and confidence game and was confined at the Illinois State Penitentiary until July 1951.
In the 1950s he operated a service station in Tucson, Arizona where he sold used cars. He married Dolores & they had 4 sons, Steve, Patrick, Bruce & Eric.
In 1953 he was convicted of conspiracy in connection with a bad check passing operation and was again held at the Illinois State Penitentiary until August 1956.
He volunteered with the AZ,Pima-Co Juvenile Probation Department and in 1959 he was named special deputy to handle cases of wayward youths.
In 1959 & 1960 he performed 3 bank robberies in Arizona & he was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was since estranged from his wife & children.
On 30 Dec 1968 he escaped from the TX,LaTuna prison & on 3 Feb 1969 he was placed on the FBI 10 most wanted list. He went on the lam & lived in Oregon under an assumed name for nearly a decade.
Investigators found him in 1978 after he had attracted some publicity for opening the state's first licensed bingo parlor in Springfield, Oregon.
He died in 1998 & was buried at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Muskogee Co, Oklahoma in plot#17A, 0, 60 with inscription: "S2 US Navy World War II".
His son Stephen Craig PADDOCK @64 had led a crime free life until 1 October 2017 just after 10pm when he carried out the Las Vegas Strip shooting which was the deadliest mass shooting by a lone gunman in USA history.
