OBITUARY: On Thursday, September 22, 2022, our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and dear, dear friend, CERVANDO “CHIEF” PADILLA, 76 entered eternal rest at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born October 23, 1945 in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico to Concepcion Godinez and Juvencio Padilla. At a young age Cervando knew, that he had a talent for music and began playing instruments, that lead to a lifelong career as a musician. While in Mexico he had the pleasure of playing with the late Juan Gabriel. The first band that he played with was Los Griego’s of Cuidad Juarez where they had their #1 hit “Angel Baby” with lead vocalist Vicky Padilla as they toured all over Mexico in 1962. Other bands were the Crazy Birds, The Seventeen’s and many other. He was employed at Stahmann Farms as a plant supervisor but his passion was music. He played with bands, such as The Mix, The Rhythearers, Silver Bullet Band, Siempre, Sangria, and lately Los Latinos de Las Cruces. The community has lost a great musician, and heaven has gained one.
On August 24, 1964 Cervando married the love of his life, Rosa Irene “Vicky” Padilla and together they had three children; son, Oscar Padilla of Las Cruces and two daughters, Mary Minjares and Erika Padilla-Sanchez and husband, Daniel all of San Miguel; brother, Arturo Padilla of Los Angeles, CA., and Evelia Tahuahua of Las Cruces. Other survivors include 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 brothers.
Family and Friends will gather at 9 AM Saturday October 29, 2022 at the San Miguel Catholic Church, 19217 S. Highway 28 in San Miguel where Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10 AM. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated immediately thereafter. Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date.
