Ann was born circa 1825 in Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom, according to the 1851 census. [1] She passed away in 1909 in Newburgh, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom, according to her probate records. [2]
Family
Ann married James Suttie, weaver, in 1849. [3] Ann bore at least two children, both of which survived to adulthood:
Mary Paterson Suttie. See 1851 census, below. Mary married David Wishart, stone cutter, according to Ann's probate records. [4]
Margaret Robertson Suttie. [5] Margaret married Andrew Ross, stone mason, according to Ann's probate records. [4]
Residences
Ann was enumerated in the following censuses:
1851 - Ann, age 26, is found in the household of James Suttie, age 33, residing within the parliamentary burgh of Auchtermuchty, royal burgh of Auchtermuchty, and town of Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom. Also in the household is their 2 week old daughter Mary. All residents were born in Auchtermuchty, as well. [1]
1861 - Ann, age 36, is found in the household of James Suttie, age 43, linen weaver, residing in the parish of Newburgh and the royal burgh of Newburgh. Daughter Mary, age 10, also appears. All three were born in Auchtermuchty. Daughter Margaret, age 6, was born in Newburgh. [6]
1871 - There is an Ann Suttie, age 46, listed in Newburgh, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom, which is presumably this individual.
1881 - There is an Ann Suttie, age 56, listed in Newburgh, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom, which is presumably this individual. [7]
1901 - There is an Ann Suttie, age 76, listed in Abdie, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom, which is presumably this individual.
Ann also appeared on the 1897-1905 valuation rolls in Abdie, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom.
Research Notes
Ann's daughter Mary's middle name of Paterson, suggests that that particular name may be a family name. There is a Thomas Page who married Mary Paterson in 1809 who could be Ann's parents. [9] But see Margaret's middle name. Also, there is a Thomas Page in the 1851 Auchtermuchty, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom, census that appears to be the same individual, although widowed. [10] This same Thomas appeared in the 1841 Dysart, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom Census, but without his daughter Ann or wife. [11] Until Ann can be located on the 1841 census or other documentary evidence is located, her parentage cannot be confirmed.
Because 1897 is the first year Ann appears on the valuation rolls, it is likely her husband James died between the valuations of 1896 and 1897.
