Biography

For much of her early adult life, Lucy lived at home looking after her widowed father, Edward and his tailoring business. Then, at the age of thirty-seven, she married a local baker named William Bamford at the church of St Martin in the Fields at Westminster on 2 January 1831. They had three children, William in 1834, Edward in 1836 and Eleanor in 1838.

William died one year after his birth and the other son Edward at the age of 24.

Lucy died in 1856. Her daughter, Eleanor, married in 1862, leaving her husband to continue in business and to be looked after by Lucy’s niece, Lucy Elizabeth Butler.
