Edward was married to Mary and with a son named Edward, born in 1768. As far as can be ascertained, he was their only child, and when Edward, the father, died in 1780, his share of the business was left to his wife with provision made for the maintenance and education of his son until he reached the age of twenty one. On reaching this age, he was to be paid the sum of six hundred pounds to assist him in business. Only on the death of his mother was he to receive the residue of his father’s estate.
In 1774, Edward was recorded as the owner of the premises at 63 George Street, Richmond, acquired in 1771. His nephew James Paine was shown as the occupier. He also owned premises at 42-43 The Quadrant, which may have contained the slaughterhouses, as well as the house where he lived. He also owned another significant property, a prestigious house at 22 The Green, Richmond, which was leased out.
It is not clear what happened to his son Edward as no further records for him can be found. He may have died before reaching the age of twenty-one, In this case, the elder Edward’s estate may eventually have passed to his brother Thomas and his family.
This seems to be borne out because Thomas accumulated a number of properties in Richmond and nearby Ham, and these included his brother’s house at 22 The Green.
