Priscilla daughter of Priscilla Payn by Sir George Downing was born the eighth day of July, & baptized the twentieth day of the same month 1698 at St Mary Hornsey. She married Edward Webb on 1 March 1728 at St Botolph, Cambridge, and had son named Edward baptised 10 November 1729 at Gamlingay, and another of the same name baptised on 4 August 1734 at Gamlingay. Interestingly, a witness in the Chancery case brought in 1752 by Sir Jacob Garrard Downing [National Archives ref C12/881/12] is 'Edward Webb of Gamlingay, shepherd, aged 44 years and upwards'. As this case is from 1752 it means that Edward Webb had been born c1708. There is a baptism of an Edward Webb son of John and Mary Webb in Gamlingay on 19 Sept 1708. The reason Edward Webb was asked to give evidence can only be because he was married to Downing's half-sister and therefore knew Downing and his household. [James Brown]
