Biography

The only thing we know for certain about Eliza Paine is that she married Hasten Poe in 1804. She may have had a sister named Rebecca Paine who married Jacob Poe just two years later in Warren County. She must have died before 1811 because Hasten remarried in August of that year. One of her marriage records renders her name as Eliza. so she was probably named Elizabeth and Eliza was her nickname.

I estimated her birth year assuming she was likely at least sixteen when she married.

She had one or two children before passing away. The date of her death and the disposition of her remains is unknown.
