DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Stephen by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Stephen:
Samuel is my 6th gr-grandfather via Noah. I would like to know what the evidence for Rhoda and Aaron being his children is. I can find nothing to support them being his children. The records I do find are for marriages in Kent, Connecticut on the opposite end of the state from Pomfret. The marriage of Judeth, who can be confirmed as their daughter, also occurred in Kent. If all of this is correct, and I am not certain that the Judeth who married Abel Comstock in Kent is their daughter but rather a different Judeth, that begs the question of when and why did 3 of his 4 children migrate to Kent while he seems to have remained in the eastern part of the state. What is lacking is clear evidence that the Judeth, Rhoda and Aaron who all married in Kent are indeed his children. The is no evidence to suggest that Stephen ever resided in Kent. The 10 year gap between the birth of Noah and the birth of Rhoda seems odd as does the location of her birth in Kent in 1739 and Aaron's birth in Pomfret in 1741 followed by the marriage of Judeth back in Kent in 1747. The earliest record of a Paine in the Kent town vital records is the marriage of Judeth in 1747 followed by Rhoda in 1757. This renders the claim of Rhoda's birth as being in Kent unlikely. I have also seen that claim that Freelove Payne who married Levi Crocker in Kent in 1753 or 1758 is also a child of Stephen and Sarah. She was baptised 21 Apr 1734 in Portland, Middlesex, Connecticut with her father listed as Stephen, no mother listed. The discrepancy in marriage dates comes from two separate collections of record transcriptions. The 1758 date is a transcription error as son Levi was born Dec 1753 in Cromwell, CT.
I'm with you concerning Rhoda (Payne) Strong (1739-1825). If you look at the 'Changes' there it was years after the profile was created that Stephen & Sarah were attached as her parents. I have never seen any documentation for that, although it's been awhile since I looked for any.
The Strong genealogy states that she was the daughter of "a Mr Payne and a Beaumont", That's the only reference I was able to find concerning her parents. Also Rhoda is said to have been born in Kent - which implies that her parents lived there. Take a look at her file, including the comments, for what little there is,
As a direct descendant I would love to see this cleared up if possible.
Paine-981 and Paine-1491 appear to represent the same person because: they are clearly the same person, dob, mother and siblings the same. I don't have the information to resolve the discrepancy in death date. If it can't be done it should be set as 'unknown'.
